Humboldt Roller Derby is proud to present the Redwood Saplings!  Now in its fourth season, the Saplings program is committed to engaging young women from throughout Humboldt County in the game of roller derby. The Saplings program’s mission is to foster trust and communication between players while developing athletic ability, derby knowledge and strategy, and sportsmanship in a fun and safe environment.

Program Overview

  • SKATE SKILLS CLASS will run from Sep. 17 - Dec. 19 and is designed to provide new and returning skaters with a foundational skill set of basic derby skate skills needed for the sport.  This class ends with a Skills Assessment which is a requirement for all skaters moving onto the Derby Skills Class.
  • DERBY SKILLS CLASS is our main season and will run from Jan. 8 - May 30. All skaters in this class will have many opportunities to play in both home and travel bouts.
  • MONTHLY SCRIMMAGES open to all skaters who have passed the Skills Assessment and who have met the practice attendance requirement.
